Help protect The FAIR (Fair, Accurate, Inclusive, Respectful) EDUCATION ACT!
The FAIR Education Act, signed into law in July 2011, requires California schools to integrate age-appropriate and factual information about current events and history of people of color, roles of gay (LGBT) people, and people with disabilities into Social Science instruction.
- Opponents of the ACT are once again attacking the LGBT community
- This isn’t just about EDUCATION, it connects to all of our battles for EQUALITY.

Who decides what students will learn?
Lessons required under the FAIR Education Act must be age-appropriate and will be developed at the local level, where school districts will decide what’s appropriate for each classroom based on parent and teacher input.
What kinds of things might students learn about under the FAIR Education Act?
The recent repeal of the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy, which banned openly gay people from serving in the military.
Harvey Milk - 1st openly gay man to be elected to public office in CA; won a seat on the SF Board of Supervisors and inspired the movie “Milk”.
How does the FAIR Education Act positively impact kids?
Bullying has been caused by discriminatory biases or negative stereotypes based solely on race, ethnicity, religion, disability, and sexual orientation that alienates students. Fostering dignity and respect makes schools safer for ALL students.
Educate friends, family and coworkers.
Our opponents are using lies based on prejudice to misrepresent the FAIR Education Act and scare parents. Use this information to help educate the public and ask people you know to Decline to Sign the opponents’ initiative petitions and sign our petition for equality instead.
